Railway JTBS (Jan Sadharan Ticket Booking Seva) Project

Overview

Indian Railways (IR), the largest rail network in Asia and the world's second-largest under a single management, with over 6000 stations, carries 17 million passengers every day. Only one million of these passengers travel with reserved seat tickets; the remaining 16 million travel each day without a confirmed seat.

The Challenge

Technology had improved reserved ticketing, but passengers still faced long queues at the unreserved ticket counters.

JTBS Solution

JTBS was introduced to sell unreserved tickets at outlets in local markets, so that passengers need not go to the station, and to create employment.

Technology Implementation

With support from the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), Thinvent Technologies Private Limited has developed its own JTBS-UTS set-up. This implementation has increased operational efficiency and improved the ticketing experience for customers.
