What is E-Waste?

We live in an electronic era. Our consumption of electronic goods has increased over the last decade and is expected to continue rising.
The electronics industry is one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing industries. As a result of this growth, discarded electronic and electrical equipment, or ‘e-waste’, is now the fastest-growing waste problem in the world.
“E-Waste or electronic waste is a term used to describe discarded electronic or electrical devices which have reached the end of their useful life. These products can be any electrical or electronic equipment or components.”
Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), or e-waste, consists of end-of-life electronic and electrical devices: broken, surplus or obsolete devices that run on electricity. Unsafe and environmentally risky disposal practices pose great risks to health and the environment.
E-waste can contain valuable materials, such as gold, copper, aluminum, silver and palladium, and hazardous materials, such as lead, cadmium and mercury. Improper disposal of e-waste can release toxic emissions into water, air and soil, which can cause environmental and health hazards. Awareness of proper e-waste disposal is therefore important.

Thinvent E-Waste Program

In a developing country such as India, most e-waste ends up in the informal sector, where it is recycled without regard for health or the environment. At Thinvent Technologies Private Limited, we take our share of environmental responsibility, and we work continuously towards the safe disposal of electronic waste.
Electronic devices contain some hazardous components. Under our e-waste policy, we comply with the E-waste (Management) Rules 2016, issued by the MoEF & CC, Government of India.
Our company complies with all applicable laws on e-waste management. The company has partnered with M/s. BRP Infotech Private Limited, an e-waste Producer Responsibility Organization (PRO). Together with M/s. BRP Infotech Private Limited, Thinvent provides environmentally sound management of electronic devices that have reached the end of their life.
Working with M/s. BRP Infotech Private Limited, Thinvent ensures that discarded electronics are managed without harm to the environment, and protects the environment from the hazards of inappropriate waste management.

Do’s:

  • Always read the information in your product catalog on handling end-of-life equipment.

  • Ensure that only Authorized Recyclers repair and handle your electronic products.

  • Always call our authorized e-waste collection centers/points to dispose of products that have reached the end of their life.

  • Always drop off your used electronic products, batteries and accessories at the nearest authorized e-waste collection center or point when they reach the end of their life.

  • Always disconnect the battery from the product and ensure any glass surface is protected against breakage.

Don’ts:

  • Do not dismantle your electronic products on your own.

  • Do not throw electronics in bins marked ‘Do not Dispose of’.

  • Do not give e-waste to the informal (kabadi) and unorganized sectors, such as local scrap dealers and rag pickers.

  • Do not dispose of your product in garbage bins along with municipal waste that ultimately reaches landfills.
