What Is an Industrial PC?

An industrial PC (IPC) is a ruggedised computer built to run continuously in environments where a standard desktop or office mini PC would struggle. Instead of plastic enclosures and cooling fans, industrial PCs use metal chassis, wide-temperature components, fanless heat-spreading designs and industrial-grade power inputs. The result is a machine that tolerates dust, vibration, heat, humidity and 24/7 duty cycles on a factory floor, in a kiosk, inside a control cabinet or at a remote edge site.

The defining difference is not raw speed but reliability. An IPC is specified so that it keeps running — through shift changes, power dips and years of continuous operation — without needing a filtered, air-conditioned room around it.
