An industrial PC (IPC) is a computing platform engineered for continuous operation in environments where a standard office desktop would struggle: factory floors, outdoor cabinets, vehicles, kiosks, and remote equipment rooms. The defining characteristics are not raw benchmark scores but sustained reliability — wide-temperature operation, protection from dust and vibration, fanless or sealed cooling, watchdog timers, wide-range DC power input, and long-term component availability so a machine deployed today can be serviced years from now.
The core question when selecting an IPC is not "how fast is it?" but "how long will it keep running, and what happens when conditions get bad?" A well-designed industrial computer answers that with passive thermal design, solid-state storage only, industrial-grade capacitors, and I/O that matches the machinery it controls.
