What Sets an Industrial Computer Apart

An industrial computer is a computing platform engineered to run continuously in environments that would shorten the life of an office PC — production floors, kiosks, control cabinets, vehicles, laboratories and remote sites. The differences are not cosmetic: wide-temperature-tolerant components, surge- and reverse-polarity-protected power inputs, watchdog timers, extended serial connectivity, and mechanical designs that tolerate vibration and dusty air. Where a consumer desktop is rated for a few hours a day in a climate-controlled room, an industrial system is specified for years of uninterrupted duty.

Specifications That Actually Matter

When comparing models, work from the workload backwards rather than from the biggest number on the datasheet.
