What Is a Fanless Desktop Computer?
A fanless desktop computer is a compact computer that cools its processor without a fan. Heat moves from the processor and other components to a metal chassis, which releases it into the surrounding air. Because no fan moves air through the case, there are no moving parts to wear out and no dust is drawn into the internal components. Fanless designs run quietly and suit environments where dust, vibration or noise are a concern.
Key Specifications
Thinvent fanless desktop computers use Intel Core processors from the 12th generation, including the Core i3-1215U, Core i5-1240P and Core i7-1255U. The Core i3-1215U has 6 cores and a maximum frequency of 4.4 GHz with 10 MB of cache. The Core i5-1240P has 12 cores, a maximum frequency of 4.4 GHz and 12 MB of cache. The Core i7-1255U has 10 cores, a maximum frequency of 4.7 GHz and 12 MB of cache.
Memory options range from 8 GB to 64 GB of DDR4 RAM. Storage options include 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB SSDs. The IPC5 models include a dual LAN port. Wireless options include dual band WiFi on selected models. Operating system choices include Windows 11 Pro, Windows 11 IoT Value, Ubuntu Linux, or no operating system.
Thinvent also has Micro thin clients and mini PCs based on ARM processors. The Micro 5R thin client uses an ARM Cortex A53 processor with 4 cores, up to 2.0 GHz, 2 GB of onboard RAM and 16 GB of eMMC storage. The Micro 6 Pro mini PC uses an ARM Cortex A55 processor with 4 cores, up to 1.9 GHz, 4 GB of onboard RAM and 32 GB of eMMC storage. Both run Thinux embedded Linux.
Use Cases
Fanless desktop computers suit factory floors, machine control, kiosks, digital signage, point-of-sale systems and laboratory equipment. Dust-free operation and quiet running make them practical in clean rooms, medical areas and offices. Their compact size allows installation behind monitors, on walls or inside equipment cabinets.
Thinvent Fanless Computers
Thinvent has fanless desktop computers in the IPC5, IPC3, Micro 5R and Micro 6 Pro lines. Choose an IPC5 model for dual LAN and higher performance, an IPC3 model for a lower-cost Core i3 system, or a Micro model for an ARM-based thin client or mini PC.
