Lr1N3U

What Is the LR1N3U Network PC Station?

The LR1N3U is a network PC station (also called a multi-user terminal or "network computing terminal") from the VAMAA brand. It is a small access device that lets several users share the processing power of a single host desktop computer. Rather than each desk having its own full PC, each user gets a lightweight station that connects to a shared host over a standard Ethernet network. The host does the actual computing, while the station handles the keyboard, mouse, monitor and audio at each seat.

This "one host, many users" model is known as multi-seat or network computing. It is popular in classrooms, training labs, call centres, data-entry rooms and small offices because it lowers the cost per seat, centralises administration, and reduces power draw and desk clutter compared with buying a full desktop for every user.

How Multi-User Network Computing Works

Element Role
Host PC Runs the operating system and all applications; performs the heavy processing
Network station Connects over Ethernet; provides display, keyboard, mouse and audio at each desk
Network Standard 1000 Mbps (Gigabit) Ethernet is recommended for smooth multi-seat performance
Session software Multi-seat software or multi-session OS creates an independent desktop session per user

Because all sessions share one host, the practical number of users depends on the host's CPU, RAM and storage, the software used, and the kind of work being done. Light tasks such as browsing, documents, data entry and basic training software scale to more seats than heavy tasks like video editing or CAD.

Where Network PC Stations Are Used

  • Classrooms and computer labs – one host serves many student seats

  • Training and testing centres – quick to deploy and easy to reset

  • Call centres and data entry – low cost per workstation

  • Small offices and shops – shared billing or records terminals

  • Industrial and kiosk setups – a central machine with several operator stations

Thinvent Alternatives for Shared and Centralised Computing

Thinvent builds fanless, industrial-grade computers designed for exactly the kind of always-on, shared-computing environments where network PC stations are used. For a modern multi-user deployment, a Thinvent Industrial PC or Mini PC can act as the host running multiple sessions, while Thinvent Thin Clients serve as the low-power, maintenance-free access devices at each desk. Thinvent All-in-One PCs suit single-desk roles where a compact, cable-light workstation with a built-in screen is preferred.

Thinvent systems are available with Intel® processors across Celeron, N-series and Core™ i3/i5 options, DDR4 memory, SSD storage, dual Gigabit Ethernet ports and multiple HDMI outputs — useful when building a reliable host for shared sessions. Operating system choices include Microsoft Windows 11 Pro, Windows 11 IoT, Ubuntu Linux 24.04 LTS, Thinux™ Embedded Linux, FreeDOS and Without OS, so deployments can be standardised on the platform that matches the multi-seat software in use. Fanless cooling and industrial build quality help these units keep running quietly in dusty labs, classrooms and factory floors.
