Mini PC NUC: Compact Intel and ARM Systems

What is a mini PC NUC?

A mini PC NUC is a small desktop computer built on a compact board or chassis. The name NUC refers to the Next Unit of Computing form factor first used by Intel for small systems. Mini PCs of this type fit behind a monitor or on a desk, and they run full desktop operating systems. They suit office work, digital signage, kiosks, point-of-sale terminals and light industrial control.

Key specifications

Each Thinvent mini PC has a processor, memory, storage and a power adapter. Processor choice sets the performance level. The range covers three processor families:

  • Intel Processor N-series (N95, N100): 4 cores, up to 3.4 GHz, 6 MB cache. Suited to everyday office tasks and kiosks.

  • Intel Core i3, i5, i7 and Core Ultra 5: 6 to 12 cores, up to 5.0 GHz, 10 to 12 MB cache. Suited to multitasking, data work and heavier applications.

  • ARM Cortex-A55: 4 cores, up to 1.9 GHz, 1 MB cache. Suited to low-power embedded and Linux-based tasks.

Memory ranges from 4 GB to 64 GB. Storage ranges from 32 GB to 1 TB, using SSD or eMMC. Some models include dual LAN ports or dual band WiFi. Others have no WiFi.

Comparison of processor families

Family Cores Max frequency Cache Typical use
ARM Cortex-A55 4 1.9 GHz 1 MB Embedded, low power
Intel N95 / N100 4 3.4 GHz 6 MB Office, kiosks
Intel Core i3-1215U 6 4.4 GHz 10 MB Multitasking
Intel Core i3-1315U 6 4.5 GHz 10 MB Multitasking, 32 GB memory
Intel Core 5 120U 10 5.0 GHz 12 MB Demanding workloads
Intel Core Ultra 5 125U 12 4.3 GHz 12 MB Demanding workloads, DDR5
Intel Core i7-1255U 10 4.7 GHz 12 MB High memory workloads

Use cases

Mini PCs fit spaces where a full tower is impractical. Retail and hospitality sites use them for point-of-sale and menu displays. Factories and labs use them for machine monitoring. Offices use them as low-footprint workstations. Models with Thinux or Ubuntu Linux suit developers and embedded projects, while Windows 11 Pro and Windows 11 IoT Value models suit business software.

Thinvent mini PCs featuring this technology

Thinvent has mini PCs in the Treo and Aero lines, plus the Micro 6 Pro. The Micro 6 Pro uses an ARM Cortex-A55 processor for low-power embedded work. The Treo line uses Intel N-series and Core i7 processors. The Aero line uses Intel Core i3, Core 5 and Core Ultra 5 processors. Choose a model by processor, memory, storage and operating system to match the task.
