The most common reason an industrial PC dies in the field is its fan. Dust loads up the impeller, the fan slows, the CPU throttles, and a few months later the bearing seizes. The PC reboots and runs hot, until it doesn't.

Every Thinvent industrial PC — IPC1, IPC3, IPC5 — is completely fanless and ventless. The chassis itself is the heatsink: a solid precision-milled extruded aluminium block in direct contact with the SoC. Heat moves to the case by conduction. There's no air path inside the box, so there's nothing for dust to clog.

Built around passive cooling

We did not start with a regular desktop motherboard and add a passive heatsink. The whole product is designed around getting heat out of the CPU and into the chassis without any airflow. Component placement, thermal-pad selection and chassis size are matched to the industrial-temperature rating of each model.

No fan, no dust ingress path

Fanless and ventless. No air path means dust can't get in. The chassis only has openings for the rated I/O — power, USB, HDMI, VGA, RS-232, Ethernet. Dust accumulates on the outside, not inside it. Wipe it down and forget it.

Silent enough for control rooms

Fanless means dB-zero. Useful in QC labs, libraries, hospital wards, museum kiosks, recording studios, and the kind of factory control room where the operator has to talk on the phone.

Frequently asked

IPC3 and IPC5 are rated 0 °C to 50 °C. IPC1 is rated 0 °C to 40 °C. The chassis surface gets warm under load — that's the heat leaving by design — but the silicon stays well inside its safe operating range.

For Intel N100 (IPC1) and 12th-gen Core i3 (IPC3), there's no thermal throttling under sustained load — the chassis dissipates everything the CPU can produce. For Core i5 / i7 (IPC5), short bursts run at full turbo; sustained 100% all-cores will throttle modestly, similar to a fanned mini-PC of the same size.

No — opening the chassis without our explicit written permission voids the warranty. If you need a hardware change, write to sales@thinvent.in and we'll either authorise the work in writing or take the unit in for service.

1-year standard warranty per thinvent.in/a/warranty. For government / GeM, on-site 1-3 year warranty with optional Defective Media Retention (DMR) is available — write to gov@thinvent.in.

The standard IPC1/3/5 chassis is sealed against dust ingress (no fans, no vents) but is not formally IP65-rated. For IP65 we can recommend an enclosure-and-fit project; tell us the use case and we'll spec it.
