Railway ATVM (Automatic Ticket Vending Machine) Project

Indian Railways introduced Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs) to reduce queues at ticket counters in railway stations. ATVMs are touch-screen ticketing kiosks operated with smart cards.

How ATVMs Work

Passengers buy and recharge smart cards at ticket counters. The passenger places the smart card in a slot on the ATVM and selects the route and destination on the touch screen. After the passenger confirms the details, the ATVM prints and issues the ticket and debits the fare from the smart card.

Key Features

The interface and software include a graphical display of route maps and trilingual menu options. The service is cashless, convenient and available round the clock.

Thinvent's ATVM Solution

Thinvent has developed rugged hardware and stable Linux-based firmware for the Automatic Ticket Vending Machines. Thinvent's ATVM thin clients are rugged computers built on technology developed from the ground up for harsh Indian conditions.

The equipment withstands heavy use 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It must withstand dust, heat, inexperienced users and unreliable power at some of the remotest locations in the country.
