What Are Industrial Automation Tools?

In industrial automation, the term "tools" covers a wide stack: PLCs and PACs, HMIs, sensors and I/O modules, SCADA and MES software, fieldbus gateways — and, increasingly, the industrial computer that sits at the centre of that stack. The industrial PC (IPC) is the general-purpose compute layer of an automation cell. It runs the HMI/SCADA runtime, hosts the OPC UA or Modbus gateway, performs vision inspection, logs production data, and feeds the plant network or MES.   • Cooling and sealing — fanless designs remove the single most common mechanical failure point and stop the chassis pulling dust into the electronics.

  • Power — 12 V DC input suits cabinet power supplies and battery/UPS-backed installations rather than relying on mains AC inside the panel.
