What Is an Industrial PC?
An industrial PC (IPC) is a fanless, ruggedised computer designed to run continuously in environments where a standard office desktop would quickly fail. Instead of a plastic tower with a spinning fan, an IPC typically uses an aluminium or steel chassis that acts as a heatsink, conduction-cooled components, and wide-input DC power. The result is a machine that survives dust, vibration, temperature swings and brownouts while still running a full desktop operating system or a Linux-based application stack.
The defining characteristics are: no moving parts in the cooling path, an operating temperature range far wider than consumer hardware (commonly 0 °C to 50 °C or beyond), DIN-rail or VESA mounting, and an I/O set aimed at machines rather than offices — multiple gigabit Ethernet ports, RS-232/RS-485 serial ports, digital I/O, and display outputs that stay available for years.
