What Is an Industrial PC?
An industrial computer (IPC) is a ruggedised computing platform built to run continuously in environments where a standard desktop or office PC would struggle — factory floors, control cabinets, outdoor kiosks, warehouses and remote equipment rooms. Unlike consumer PCs, industrial models are designed around three priorities: continuous operation, wide-temperature tolerance, and long-term component availability so a deployed system can be serviced and replicated years later.
The defining engineering choice in most modern IPCs is fanless cooling. By conducting heat away from the processor through a machined aluminium chassis instead of a spinning fan, the system removes the single most common point of mechanical failure and the main path by which dust, metal filings and moisture enter the enclosure. The result is a sealed, silent unit that can be mounted on a DIN rail, a VESA plate or inside a panel without circulating contaminated air through its internals.

When specifying an industrial computer, the processor family determines the balance between performance, power draw and thermal headroom.
