What an Industrial PC Is

An industrial PC (IPC) is a computer engineered for continuous duty in environments where a standard office desktop would struggle — factory floors, control cabinets, kiosks, warehouses, and outdoor enclosures. The difference is not just the processor; it is the chassis, the thermal design, the power input, the connector retention and the long-term component availability. Industrial PCs are typically rated for wide temperature ranges, tolerate dust and vibration, and are built to run 24/7 for years rather than hours a day for a few years.

Key Specifications to Evaluate

When comparing industrial computers, the specification sheet matters less than how those numbers behave under load and heat. A useful checklist:
