Ast 2600

The AST 2600 is a Server Management Processor, also known as a Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) system-on-chip (SoC), designed by ASPEED Technology. It is a specialized component embedded in server motherboards to provide out-of-band management capabilities, allowing IT administrators to monitor and control servers remotely regardless of the host system's power state or operating system condition. This is a critical component for modern data center infrastructure, enabling remote power cycling, system health monitoring, and console access.

Key Specifications and Architecture

The AST 2600 represents ASPEED's 7th generation BMC. It is built on a 28nm process and features a dual-core ARM Cortex-A7 processor as its primary compute engine, often accompanied by an additional ARM Cortex-M3 core for embedded management tasks. This architecture provides a significant performance uplift over previous generations. It supports modern interfaces like DDR4 memory and includes advanced security features such as Secure Boot and ARM TrustZone technology to ensure the integrity and confidentiality of management functions.

Primary Use Cases and Applications

The AST 2600 is not a general-purpose CPU for consumer PCs. Its sole purpose is server management. Key applications include:

  • Remote Server Management: Provides KVM (Keyboard, Video, Mouse) over IP, virtual media mounting, and system event log access.

  • Health Monitoring: Continuously monitors server parameters like temperature, fan speeds, and voltage levels.

  • Data Center Automation: Enables large-scale server provisioning, updates, and troubleshooting without physical access, which is essential for cloud computing and enterprise server farms.

Thinvent Products Featuring Management Technology

While Thinvent specializes in industrial computers, mini PCs, and thin clients for edge computing and dedicated workloads, the underlying principle of reliable, remote-capable management is core to our design philosophy. Our systems are built for stability in harsh environments and often integrate into larger managed networks.

For applications requiring robust, fanless computing power at the edge—such as digital signage, kiosks, or industrial automation—Thinvent offers a range of solutions. These devices provide the reliability and connectivity needed for deployments where remote management and minimal downtime are critical, paralleling the managed infrastructure principles enabled by BMCs like the AST 2600 in data centers.
