What Is a Hackintosh?

A Hackintosh is a standard PC that runs macOS, Apple's operating system. Builders install macOS on non-Apple hardware using a bootloader such as OpenCore and driver files called kexts. Hardware support depends on whether drivers exist for each component, so the process requires checking compatibility before installation. The OpenCore Install Guide lists hardware limitations for CPU, GPU, motherboard, storage and networking.

Key Hardware Considerations

Apple supports a limited set of hardware, so compatibility is the main factor. Verify these components before you install:

  • CPU: Intel processors have the widest macOS driver support.

  • GPU: Some graphics chips lack current macOS drivers.

  • Motherboard: Chipset and firmware determine boot and power management support.

  • Storage and networking: Wired and wireless adapters often need specific kexts.

Thinvent Range and macOS

The Thinvent Aero Mini PC has an Intel Celeron N5095A processor with 4 cores, up to 2.9 GHz, 4 MB cache, 16 GB DDR4 RAM and 128 GB SSD storage. Thinvent does not list macOS as a supported operating system for this range. The Aero Mini PC is offered with Windows 11 IoT, Windows 11 Pro, DOS, Thinux Embedded Linux and Ubuntu Linux. Thinvent does not offer the Aero Mini PC with WiFi.

The Thinvent range does not include a macOS-ready configuration. Buyers who want macOS on a fixed-hardware PC should check the processor, graphics, storage and network chips against the OpenCore compatibility guides before purchase.

Thinvent Aero Mini PC Options

Choose the Aero Mini PC with the operating system that fits your use:

  • Windows 11 IoT or Windows 11 Pro for Windows workloads

  • Ubuntu Linux or Thinux Embedded Linux for Linux workloads

  • DOS for legacy software

  • A Thinvent keyboard and mouse set can be added to any of these configurations
