What is a thin client?
A thin client is a compact computer that runs its applications from a server or a cloud desktop. It stores little or no user data on the device itself. This design reduces maintenance, simplifies software updates, and lowers the number of devices that need full administration. Thin clients suit offices, call centres, kiosks, classrooms, and any site that runs virtual desktops or remote applications.
Thin client options in the Thinvent range
The Thinvent range includes two processor families. The Thinvent Micro 5R uses an ARM Cortex A53 processor with 4 cores running up to 2.0 GHz. It has 2 GB of onboard RAM, 16 GB of eMMC storage, and WiFi 6 with Bluetooth. It runs Thinux embedded Linux and has an HDMI 2.0 output and a speaker output.
The Thinvent Neo S uses an Intel Celeron J1900 processor with 4 cores running up to 2.4 GHz and 2 MB of cache. It is a 7th generation Celeron model. Neo S models have 4 GB or 8 GB of DDR3 RAM. Storage options include 32 GB MLC SSD, 128 GB SSD, 256 GB SSD, and dual 32 GB MLC SSD configurations. Neo S models have no WiFi.
Operating system choices
Thinvent thin clients are sold with different operating systems. Options include Thinux embedded Linux, Ubuntu Linux, Windows 11 Pro, and DOS. Some Neo S models ship without an operating system, so you can install your own.

Choosing a thin client
Choose the Micro 5R for low-power, single-purpose deployments that need wireless connectivity. Choose the Neo S when you need an x86 processor, more memory, or Windows 11 Pro. Check that your remote desktop or virtual desktop software supports the processor and operating system you select.
