A computer gift works best when it matches the person who receives it. A student, a home user, an office worker and a factory technician each need different hardware. The main choices are a mini PC for general use, a thin client for shared or remote desktop work, an all-in-one or panel PC where the screen and computer are one unit, and an industrial PC for continuous operation.
What to consider before choosing
-
Processor: Intel® Celeron® and N-series chips suit browsing, documents and media playback. Intel® Core™ i3 and i5 processors suit office work, multitasking and light content editing. Intel® Core™ i7 processors suit heavy multitasking and technical software. AMD Ryzen™ 5 is another option with 6 cores and 16 MB cache.
-
Memory and storage: 4GB to 8GB RAM with a 128GB or 256GB SSD covers everyday use. 16GB RAM with a 512GB SSD suits heavier work. 64GB RAM and a 1TB SSD suit demanding workloads.
-
Operating system: Windows 11 Pro is common for home and office use. Ubuntu Linux and Thinux™ Embedded Linux suit users who prefer open-source software or fixed-function devices.
-
Connectivity: Check HDMI output, USB ports and whether WiFi and Bluetooth are included. Some models have no WiFi and use a wired network connection.
-
Form factor: A mini PC sits on or behind a desk. A thin client is small and low power. A panel PC includes the display.

Size, power and placement
Small computers use external 12V or 19V adapters and take little desk space. A thin client can run from a 5V 2A adapter and draws very little power. Industrial PCs are built for cabinets, kiosks and production areas where dust, heat and continuous operation are normal conditions.
