What "CPU i12" Actually Refers To
Intel does not sell a processor branded "i12". When buyers search for an "i12 CPU", they almost always mean 12th Generation Intel® Core™ processors — the family Intel brands as Core i3, i5, i7 and i9 with a "12" in the model number, such as the Core i3-1215U or Core i5-1250P. This generation, codenamed Alder Lake, was the first to combine two kinds of cores on a single die. If you are specifying a system and need a "12th gen" or "i12-class" CPU, you are looking at Intel's 12th Generation Core line.
Architecture and Key Specifications
Alder Lake introduced Intel's hybrid core design: Performance-cores (P-cores) for latency-sensitive work and Efficient-cores (E-cores) for background and multi-threaded throughput. The chips are built on the Intel 7 process, support DDR4 and DDR5 memory, PCIe 5.0 on desktop parts, and integrate Intel UHD or Iris Xe graphics. The result is a large jump in performance-per-watt over the previous generation, which is exactly why 12th gen parts became popular in fanless and industrial systems.
