What Is an Industrial PC?
An industrial PC (IPC) is a computing platform engineered for continuous operation in environments where a standard desktop or consumer mini PC would struggle. Instead of prioritising slimness or low cost, an IPC is built around thermal headroom, wide-voltage power input, long component lifecycles and mounting flexibility. The result is a machine that can run 24 hours a day, seven days a week, often for five to ten years, in a factory, kiosk, control room, vehicle or outdoor cabinet.
The defining characteristics are usually a fanless (passive) thermal design, a wide DC input range such as 12V or 9–36V, vibration- and shock-tolerant mounting, and an extensive set of legacy and industrial I/O — multiple serial ports, isolated digital I/O, dual Ethernet
