What is a thin client?
A thin client is a compact computer that runs applications from a central server or cloud host. Local processing is minimal, so the device needs little storage and no hard drive. Thin clients suit offices, kiosks, classrooms, and retail sites where many endpoints need the same managed setup.
Thinvent thin clients use two processor families. The Micro 5R uses an ARM Cortex A53 processor with 4 cores running up to 2.0 GHz. It has 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of eMMC storage. The Neo S range uses Intel Celeron J1900 processors with 4 cores running up to 2.4 GHz and 2 MB of cache. Neo S models come with 4 GB or 8 GB of DDR3 RAM and 32 GB to 256 GB of SSD storage.

The Micro 5R has one HDMI 2.0 port and one speaker output. The Micro 5R includes WiFi 6 and Bluetooth, and it ships with a 5V 2A adapter. Neo S models use a 19V adapter, rated 1.3A or 3A depending on the model. Neo S models do not include WiFi.
Use cases
Organisations use thin clients for kiosk displays, point-of-sale terminals, digital signage, and call centre desks. Administrators can deploy one image to many devices and manage them from a central console. Buyers who need Windows can choose a Neo S model with Windows 11 Pro. Buyers who need a Linux-based or OS-free device can choose a Neo S model with Ubuntu Linux, Thinux, or no operating system. Buyers who need wireless networking should choose the Micro 5R, because the Neo S range does not include WiFi.
