What Is a Thin Client?
A thin client is a small computer that runs little or no local software. It connects to a server, virtual desktop or cloud host, which runs the applications and stores the data. The thin client shows the screen, takes keyboard and mouse input, and sends it back to the server. Because most work happens on the server, thin clients are simple to deploy, easy to manage from one location, and use little power.
Thinvent Thin Client Specifications
The Thinvent range includes two processor families. The Thinvent Micro 5R uses an ARM Cortex A53 processor with 4 cores running up to 2.0 GHz. It has 2 GB of onboard RAM, 16 GB of eMMC storage, WiFi 6, Bluetooth, one HDMI 2.0 output and one speaker output. It runs Thinux embedded Linux.
The Thinvent Neo S uses an Intel Celeron J1900 processor with 4 cores running up to 2.4 GHz and 2 MB of cache. It is available with 4 GB or 8 GB of DDR3 RAM. Storage options include 32 GB MLC SSD, 128 GB SSD, 256 GB SSD and dual 32 GB MLC SSD configurations. The Neo S models do not include WiFi. They are available with Windows 11 Pro, Ubuntu Linux, Thinux embedded Linux, DOS, or without an operating system.

Use Cases
Thin clients suit call centres, retail point-of-sale counters, kiosks, digital signage, factory terminals, libraries and office desks. Organisations use them to run virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) and remote desktop sessions. IT teams update and secure the software in one place rather than on each device. The Micro 5R suits low-power wireless deployments, while the Neo S suits wired desk and workstation setups that need a full Windows or Linux environment.
Thinvent Thin Clients
Thinvent has thin clients in the Micro 5R and Neo S families. Choose the Micro 5R for compact, low-power, WiFi-connected endpoints. Choose the Neo S when you need an Intel platform with a choice of storage, memory and operating system, including Windows 11 Pro. Thinvent is a manufacturer of industrial computers, mini PCs, thin clients and all-in-one PCs, and supplies customers worldwide.
