What Makes an Industrial PC Different
An industrial PC (IPC) is a computing platform engineered for continuous operation in environments where an office desktop or consumer mini PC would struggle — factory floors, control cabinets, self-service kiosks, vehicle cabins, warehouses, and unheated or dusty enclosures. Instead of chasing peak benchmark scores, an IPC is specified around thermal headroom, vibration tolerance, wide input voltage range, mounting flexibility and long-term component availability. The design goal is predictable behaviour over years of 24/7 duty, not the fastest number on a spec sheet.
Because these systems often run unattended, reliability engineering matters more than raw speed. Fanless chassis remove the single most common mechanical failure point — the cooling fan — and allow the enclosure to be sealed against airborne dust and metal particles. Wide-range DC inputs (commonly 9–36 V) let the same unit run from a DIN-rail supply, a vehicle battery or a small adapter without extra conditioning.
