MCGS HMI Software on Thinvent Hardware
MCGS (Monitor and Control Generated System) is a Windows-based configuration platform for building human-machine interface (HMI) applications. Engineers use it to create monitoring screens, alarm logs and data displays without deep programming knowledge. MCGS runs on Windows and generates runtime files that are deployed to the target device. It is mainly used on embedded HMI panels and upper-computer monitoring systems for factory floor, packaging, water treatment and energy applications.
The software is installed on a Windows PC for development and then on the device that runs the HMI. The device must match the software's operating system requirements. Windows 10 and Windows 11 are the platforms named in current MCGS installation guidance. Before installation, confirm the operating system architecture (32-bit or 64-bit) and install the Visual C++ redistributables that the software requires.
Thinvent products that run Windows 11 are the Industrial PC IPC5 with Intel Core i5-1240P, the Industrial PC IPC5 with Intel Core i7-1255U and the Aero Mini PC with Intel Core i3-1215U and Windows 11 Pro. These models give a Windows platform for MCGS development and runtime. The Thinvent Treo Mini PC with AMD Ryzen 5 7430U also runs Windows 11 Pro.
Thinvent products that run Linux are the Industrial PC IPC3 with Intel Core i3-1215U and Ubuntu Linux, the Industrial PC IPC5 with Intel Core i7-1255U and Ubuntu Linux, and the Treo Mini PC with Intel N5095A and Ubuntu Linux. The Thinvent Micro 5R Thin Client uses Thinux Embedded Linux and an ARM Cortex A53 processor. Thinvent's product page does not state MCGS compatibility for any of these models. Confirm the software's supported platforms with the MCGS vendor before deployment.
