What Makes a Keyboard "Mechanical"?

A mechanical keyboard uses an individual spring-and-stem switch under every key, rather than the single rubber dome sheet used in a membrane keyboard. Each switch actuates independently, which is why mechanical boards feel consistent across the whole layout, tolerate far more keystrokes before wearing out, and can register every key in a combination at once
