What Does "Nano CPU" Mean?
The term "nano CPU" is used in two overlapping ways, and the right meaning depends on context. In the strict historical sense, VIA Nano is a 64-bit x86 processor for personal computers, released by VIA Technologies in 2008 and developed over five years by its Centaur Technology division. Its "Isaiah" architecture was designed from scratch, and it was notable for bringing 64-bit computing to the sub-notebook and low-power desktop segment at a time when that was unusual. Because the VIA Nano shipped on very small boards, the name became closely associated with nano-sized computing platforms in general.
In the broader, more common usage today, "nano CPU" refers to the class of ultra-low-power processors used in nano computers — complete systems engineered into an exceptionally small form factor, often not much larger than a smartphone. These machines pair a low-wattage CPU with soldered memory, flash storage and a fanless chassis to deliver reliable computing with a minimal physical footprint
