Pc+Panel - Industrial Panel PCs: Fanless All-in-One Touch Computers

A panel PC is a complete computer built into a flat display enclosure so that it can be mounted directly into a machine panel, cabinet door, kiosk cut-out or control console. Instead of separating a boxed PC from a monitor, the processor, memory, storage and I/O all sit behind the screen, with only a single DC power cable and network connection required. The result is a shorter bill of materials, less cabling inside the enclosure, and a touch interface that operators can use with gloves, styluses or bare hands.

What Defines a Panel PC

Panel PCs are engineered around front-panel mounting rather than desk placement. Typical characteristics include:

  • Flush panel mount — a front bezel with clamping brackets so the unit sits flat in a cut-out, keeping dust and liquids away from the electronics behind the panel.

  • Touch input — resistive touch is common where operators wear gloves or where the screen may get wet; projected capacitive touch gives brighter, multi-touch interaction for kiosks and information displays.

  • Fanless thermal design — heat is conducted to an aluminium chassis instead of being pushed out by a fan, so no dust is drawn into the enclosure and there are no moving parts to wear out.

  • Wide-input DC power — usually 12 V or 9–36 V DC, matching the power rails available inside industrial cabinets and vehicles.

  • Legacy and modern I/O together — RS-232/RS-485 serial ports for PLCs and meters alongside USB 3.2, HDMI and Gigabit Ethernet.

  • Long-lifecycle components — processors and chipsets selected for multi-year availability so a machine design does not need re-qualification every year.

Choosing the Right Screen Size and Resolution

Screen size is driven by viewing distance and how much information the operator must see at once. Around 21.5 inches at Full HD is the workhorse size for machine HMIs, production dashboards and access control desks, because it fits a standard panel cut-out while remaining readable at arm's length. A 23.8-inch Full HD panel suits control rooms, digital signage, medical imaging front-ends and building management consoles where several windows or a full
