What Is an Industrial PC?
An industrial PC (IPC) is a computing platform engineered for continuous operation in environments that would quickly defeat a consumer desktop: dusty factory floors, unventilated control cabinets, high-vibration machine frames and wide temperature swings. Unlike office hardware, an IPC is specified for long-life availability, wide-input DC power, protection against electrical noise, and mounting options such as DIN rail, wall bracket or VESA plate. The design goal is simple — the system should keep running unattended for years, not for a refresh cycle.
The Intel® Core™ i3-1215U Platform
The Intel® Core™ i3-1215U is a 12th generation mobile processor built on Intel's hybrid architecture. It pairs 2 Performance-cores with 4 Efficient-cores for a total of 6 cores and 8 threads, reaching up to 4.4 GHz, with 10 MB of Intel® Smart Cache shared across the cores. Base power is a modest 15 W, configurable by the OEM, which makes the chip well suited to sealed, fanless chassis.
Supporting platform features include DDR4 memory (up to 3200 MT/s) and PCIe 4.0 lanes for NVMe storage, plus integrated Intel® UHD graphics capable of driving dual independent displays over HDMI. The result is a processor that behaves like a small workstation in short bursts — opening an HMI screen, running a database query, compiling an inspection result — while idling at a fraction of that power for the rest of the shift.
