What Is Qseven?
Qseven is an embedded computer module standard. A Qseven module is a small board that carries a processor, memory and storage. It connects to a carrier board through a standardized edge connector. The carrier board adds the ports and interfaces an application needs.
The Qseven specification is maintained by the Standardization Group for Embedded Technologies (SGeT). SGeT took over the specification from the original Qseven consortium in 2013. Revision 2.0 was released on 9 September 2012. Revision 2.1 was released on 25 February 2016.
Key Specifications
Qseven modules have a standardized form factor of 70 mm x 70 mm or 40 mm x 70 mm. The pinout is based on the high-speed MXM system connector. The pinout is the same regardless of the vendor. The module passes the major signals and interfaces to the carrier board through gold fingers on the PCB edge.
The LVDS flat panel configuration in the module BIOS follows the DisplayID specification. The Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) develops that specification.
Use Cases
Qseven suits compact embedded applications that need low power. Designers use it with low-power processors that have on-board memory and storage. Because the connector pinout is standard, a single carrier board design can accept modules from different vendors.
Qseven and Thinvent Products
