Quad Core PCs for Thin Client and Mini PC Use

What Is a Quad Core PC?

A quad core PC is a computer with a processor that contains four independent processing cores. Each core runs its own instruction stream, so the system can handle several tasks at the same time. Quad core processors are common in thin clients, mini PCs and embedded systems, where they give enough performance for office work, digital signage, kiosks and remote desktop sessions without the power draw of larger workstations.

Quad core processors differ mainly in architecture, clock speed, cache and memory support. Intel Celeron processors, such as the N5095A and J1900, use x86 architecture and run Windows or Linux. ARM Cortex processors, such as the Cortex A53 and A55, use a low-power architecture and typically run embedded Linux. Clock speed is the maximum frequency each core can reach. Cache is fast memory on the processor that stores frequently used data.

Key Specifications

The Thinvent quad core range includes the following configurations:

Model Processor Max Frequency Cache Memory Storage OS
Micro 5R Thin Client ARM Cortex A53 2.0 GHz n/a 2 GB 16 GB eMMC Thinux Embedded Linux
Micro 6 Pro Mini PC ARM Cortex A55 1.9 GHz 1 MB 4 GB 32 GB eMMC Thinux Embedded Linux
Treo Mini PC Intel Celeron N5095A (11th gen) 2.9 GHz 4 MB 4 GB or 8 GB DDR4 128 GB SSD Ubuntu Linux, Windows 11 Pro, or no OS
Neo S Thin Client Intel Celeron J1900 (7th gen) 2.4 GHz 2 MB 4 GB or 8 GB DDR3 32 GB or 256 GB SSD Ubuntu Linux, Windows 11 Pro, or no OS

Most models include HDMI output and support WiFi or dual band WiFi. Power adapters range from 5V 2A on the ARM models to 19V 3A on the Neo S.

Use Cases

Quad core PCs suit general business computing, including word processing, web browsing, video conferencing and terminal sessions. Thin clients based on these processors connect to a central server or virtual desktop environment, which keeps data on the server. Mini PCs suit point-of-sale systems, digital signage, information kiosks and light automation tasks. Fanless designs and compact housings allow installation in confined spaces such as behind monitors or inside control cabinets.

Thinvent Quad Core Products

Thinvent manufactures quad core thin clients and mini PCs for business, retail and embedded deployments. The Micro 5R Thin Client and Micro 6 Pro Mini PC use ARM Cortex processors with Thinux embedded Linux. The Treo Mini PC uses the Intel Celeron N5095A and is available with Ubuntu Linux, Windows 11 Pro or no operating system. The Neo S Thin Client uses the Intel Celeron J1900 and is available with 4 GB or 8 GB of memory. Choose the model that matches your operating system, memory and storage needs.
