RDP Thinclient - Fanless RDP Thin Clients for Remote Desktop

What is an RDP thin client?

An RDP thin client is a small computer that connects to a remote desktop or server session over the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP). The thin client runs little or no local software. Applications, data and processing run on a central server or virtual desktop. The thin client shows the remote screen and sends keyboard and mouse input back to the server.

Thin clients suit offices, kiosks, call centres, classrooms and industrial sites. They reduce the number of PCs to maintain, and they keep data on the server rather than on each device.

Key specifications

Thinvent thin clients use two processor families:

  • Intel Celeron J1900: 4 cores, up to 2.4 GHz, 2 MB cache. Used in the Neo S series.

  • ARM Cortex-A53: 4 cores, up to 2.0 GHz. Used in the Micro 5R.

Memory and storage vary by model:

  • Neo S models have 4 GB or 8 GB DDR3 RAM and 32 GB, 128 GB or 256 GB SSD storage.

  • The Micro 5R has 2 GB onboard RAM and 16 GB eMMC storage.

Connectivity and power:

  • The Micro 5R includes WiFi 6, Bluetooth and one HDMI 2.0 port.

  • Neo S models have no WiFi and use a 19V adapter rated 1.3A or 3A.

Operating systems include Windows 11 Pro, Ubuntu Linux, Thinux Embedded Linux and DOS. Some models ship without an OS, so you can install your own.

Choosing a model

Model Processor RAM Storage WiFi OS
Micro 5R ARM Cortex-A53, 4 cores 2 GB 16 GB eMMC Yes Thinux Embedded Linux
Neo S Intel Celeron J1900, 4 cores 4 GB or 8 GB 32 GB to 256 GB SSD No Windows 11 Pro, Ubuntu, Thinux, DOS or none

Choose the Neo S with Windows 11 Pro for a Windows-based RDP environment. Choose a Neo S without an OS if you want to install your own software. Choose the Micro 5R for a compact, low-power device with WiFi.

Thinvent thin clients for RDP

Thinvent has thin clients for remote desktop deployments. The Neo S series uses the Intel Celeron J1900 and comes with 4 GB or 8 GB DDR3 RAM, 32 GB to 256 GB SSD storage, and a choice of Windows 11 Pro, Ubuntu, Thinux or DOS. The Micro 5R uses an ARM Cortex-A53 processor with WiFi 6 and Bluetooth and runs Thinux Embedded Linux. Thinvent thin clients are an alternative to standard desktop PCs for organisations that run their applications on remote servers.
