What Makes an Industrial Computer Different
An industrial computer is a PC engineered for continuous operation in environments where a standard desktop or office mini PC would struggle. The differences are rarely about raw clock speed — they are about thermal design, power input tolerance, mounting options and long-term component availability. Fanless chassis designs move heat through a machined aluminium body instead of a spinning fan, which removes the single most common mechanical failure point and stops the machine from pulling dust, metal filings or airborne grease into its interior.
The practical result is a system that can sit inside a control cabinet, behind a kiosk panel, on a production line or in an unheated warehouse and keep running. Wide-range DC inputs (commonly 12V, 19V or 9–36V) let the same unit run from an adapter, a DIN-rail supply or a vehicle electrical system. VESA and DIN-rail mounting, watchdog timers, auto power-on after power loss, and legacy I/O such as RS-232/RS-485 serial ports are typical of this class.
