A small form factor (SFF) PC is a complete computer built into a chassis substantially smaller than a traditional tower desktop. There is no single formal standard, but in practice SFF covers machines from roughly 0.5 litres up to about 4 litres in volume, typically measuring 100–200 mm on their longest side. The category includes mini PCs, thin clients, industrial box PCs and all-in-one units where the computer is integrated behind the display. What they share is reduced footprint, lower power draw, and mounting flexibility — VESA brackets, DIN rails or panel cut-outs — rather than raw expandability.
Key Specifications to Consider
Because space is limited, SFF designs trade expansion slots for integration. Most use soldered or SO-DIMM memory, M.2 storage instead of 2.5" or 3.5" bays, and external 12V or 19V power adapters rather than internal ATX supplies.
