What is a Nxt account?
A Nxt account is an account on the Nxt blockchain platform. A Nxt account is generated from a private passphrase. There is no wallet file. Keep the passphrase safe and backed up, because the passphrase is the only way to access the account. Your account address starts with NXT-. Share this address so that others can send Nxt to you.
How a Nxt account works
Nxt does not use mining. Instead, Nxt uses forging. Forgers use the balances of existing accounts to create blocks and earn transaction fees. The Nxt software is written in Java. Nxt software and source code remain available under the Jelurida Public License.
Current status of the Nxt blockchain
Generation of new blocks and transactions on the Nxt blockchain stopped at block 6000000 on January 17, 2026. The Nxt child chain was activated on the Ardor platform at block 4333333 on February 1, 2026. All Nxt account balances were migrated to the Nxt child chain automatically.
