Which Operating Systems Run on Thin Clients?
Thin clients run either a Linux-based or a Windows-based operating system. The operating system controls how the device connects to a remote desktop or virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) environment. The Thinvent range includes Linux and Windows options, as well as models sold without an operating system.
Operating System Options for Thin Clients
Thin client operating systems fall into three groups:
-
Linux-based systems. Linux suits secure virtualization and cloud desktop environments. The Thinvent Micro 5R runs Thinux, an embedded Linux system. The Thinvent Neo S is sold with Ubuntu Linux.
-
Windows systems. Windows 11 Pro and Windows 11 Professional run on the Thinvent Neo S. Windows gives access to Windows software and management tools.
-
Systems without an operating system. The Thinvent Neo S is also sold without an OS, or with DOS. Buyers install their own operating system.
