What is a thin client range?
A thin client range is a family of small computers that run applications and desktops from a server or a local network. A thin client has a processor, memory and storage, but it does little of the work itself. The Thinvent thin client range includes two platforms: an ARM-based model and Intel Celeron-based models.
Thin client range specifications
The range has two platform types:
-
ARM model: The Thinvent Micro 5R uses an ARM Cortex A53 processor with 4 cores at up to 2.0 GHz. It has 2 GB of onboard RAM and 16 GB of eMMC storage. It includes WiFi 6, Bluetooth, an HDMI 2.0 output, a speaker output and Thinux embedded Linux.
-
Intel model: The Thinvent Neo S uses an Intel Celeron J1900 processor with 4 cores at up to 2.4 GHz and 2 MB of cache. It is a 7th generation Intel platform. The Neo S has no WiFi. It is available with 4 GB or 8 GB of DDR3 RAM and with 32 GB MLC SSD, 128 GB SSD or 256 GB SSD storage.
Operating system options
The Neo S is offered without an operating system, with Windows 11 Pro, with Ubuntu Linux, with Thinux embedded Linux or with DOS. The Micro 5R runs Thinux embedded Linux.
Comparison of range platforms

| Max frequency | 2.0 GHz | 2.4 GHz |
| Cache | Not specified | 2 MB |
| Memory | 2 GB | 4 GB or 8 GB DDR3 |
| Storage | 16 GB eMMC | 32 GB MLC, 128 GB or 256 GB SSD |
| WiFi | WiFi 6 and Bluetooth | No WiFi |
| Operating system | Thinux embedded Linux | Windows 11 Pro, Ubuntu, Thinux, DOS or none |
Use cases
Thin clients suit kiosks, point-of-sale terminals, digital signage, call centres and office desktops. The Micro 5R suits low-power, wireless deployments. The Neo S suits desktop and office deployments that need a choice of operating system and larger storage.
Thinvent thin clients
Thinvent has the Micro 5R and Neo S thin clients in the configurations described above. Choose the ARM Micro 5R for wireless, Linux-based deployments. Choose the Intel Neo S for Windows, Ubuntu or DOS deployments and for larger storage options.
