Does VMware Horizon Client Run on Thin Clients?
Yes. Omnissa Horizon Client, the VMware Horizon client software, runs on thin client endpoints. Horizon clients are pre-built for Microsoft Windows, Linux and Android, and they are distributed as binaries. Thin client solution partners can also develop custom clients based on the Omnissa XML API specification. The thin client and its external input devices must meet the system requirements published by Omnissa. Omnissa lists the supported client device vendors and models in its Tech Zone.
Operating Systems for Horizon Client on Thin Clients
Horizon Client is available for several operating systems. Windows Horizon Client runs on PCs and laptops that use a supported Microsoft Windows operating system. Windows 11 Pro, Ubuntu Linux and Thinux Embedded Linux models are available, as well as models without an OS. The Thinvent Micro 5R Thin Client uses the ARM Cortex A53 processor, with 4 cores, up to 2.0 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 16 GB eMMC storage, WiFi 6 and Bluetooth, and runs Thinux Embedded Linux.
The Thinvent range does not include a Thinvent model with a VMware-supplied OS. For Horizon Client support on a specific Thinvent model, confirm the Horizon version and client build against the Omnissa compatibility guidance for that operating system.
