What is a thin client?
A thin client is a compact computer that runs applications and desktops from a central server or cloud. It has a small processor, limited memory and local storage. Most of the work happens on the server, so the thin client needs less hardware, uses less power and needs less maintenance than a full desktop PC.
Thin clients suit kiosks, digital signage, reception desks, call centres, point-of-sale stations and any site where many identical endpoints must be managed from one place. Because each unit holds little data, a lost or damaged device exposes little information and is quick to replace.

Thinvent thin clients use two processor families. The Thinvent Micro 5R uses an ARM Cortex A53 processor with 4 cores running up to 2.0 GHz. It has 2 GB of onboard RAM and 16 GB of eMMC storage. It includes WiFi 6 and Bluetooth, and it runs Thinux embedded Linux.
The Thinvent Neo S uses an Intel Celeron J1900 processor with 4 cores running up to 2.4 GHz and 2 MB of cache. It is available with 4 GB or 8 GB of DDR3 RAM and with 32 GB MLC SSD, 128 GB SSD or 256 GB SSD storage. The Neo S has no WiFi. Its operating system options are Ubuntu Linux, Windows 11 Pro, DOS, Thinux embedded Linux, or no operating system.

Use cases
Choose the Micro 5R for light, single-task deployments where WiFi and low power matter most. Choose the Neo S where the device must run a full desktop operating system, such as Windows 11 Pro, or where a larger SSD gives more room for local files.
