What Is AI Technology?
Artificial intelligence (AI) is the capability of computational systems to perform tasks typically associated with human intelligence, such as learning, reasoning, problem-solving, perception, and decision-making. AI systems run on computers, and computer-controlled robots can carry out these tasks.
How AI Systems Learn
Machine learning is the method used to train a computer to learn from its inputs without explicit programming for every circumstance. Machine learning helps a computer achieve artificial intelligence, so the two are closely related but not the same. The simplest form of learning is trial and error, also called rote learning, where a program stores solutions it has found. A more advanced form is generalization, where a system applies past experience to new, similar situations.

Some AI programs have reached the performance level of human experts on specific tasks. Common applications include medical diagnosis, computer search engines, voice and handwriting recognition, and chatbots. Current AI does not match full human flexibility across wide domains or in tasks that require much everyday knowledge.
