Click Plus - CLICK PLUS PLC Control: Industrial PC & Mini PC Options

What Is CLICK PLUS?

CLICK PLUS is a family of programmable logic controllers (PLCs) from AutomationDirect, built as an evolution of the popular CLICK PLC line. The series includes CPU modules such as the C2-02CPU and C2-03CPU, which add built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, data logging, and expanded option-module slots. Because these CPUs communicate over Ethernet and wireless networks, they are typically paired with a host computer for programming, HMI display, data collection, and supervisory control.

How CLICK PLUS Fits Into a Control System

A CLICK PLUS PLC handles deterministic machine logic — reading inputs, driving outputs, and running ladder programs. It does not, however, replace a general-purpose computer. Most installations therefore use a small industrial or mini PC alongside the PLC to run programming software, SCADA or HMI applications, database logging, and remote-access tools. The PC connects to the PLC over Ethernet or Wi-Fi, and the two devices divide the work: the PLC controls the machine, the PC manages data, visualization, and connectivity.

Role Typical Hardware Function
Machine control CLICK PLUS PLC (C2-02CPU / C2-03CPU) Ladder logic, I/O, timers, counters
Programming & HMI Industrial PC or Mini PC Programming software, SCADA, dashboards
Data logging Mini PC with SSD Historian, CSV/database records, reports
Remote access Fanless IPC with dual Ethernet VPN gateway, remote monitoring

Key Considerations for the Host Computer

When selecting a PC to work with CLICK PLUS controllers, reliability matters more than raw speed. A fanless design avoids dust ingress and moving-part failure on the plant floor, while a solid-state drive tolerates vibration and temperature swings. Dual Gigabit Ethernet ports are useful for separating the control network from the plant or office network, and multiple USB and HDMI ports simplify keyboard, mouse, and display connections. Memory of 8–16 GB and 128–512 GB of SSD storage comfortably covers programming suites, HMI runtimes, and logging services.

Use Cases and Applications

CLICK PLUS controllers appear in packaging machinery, water treatment skids, material handling, small assembly cells, and building automation. In each case, a compact industrial computer or mini PC acts as the operator station and data hub. Fanless mini PCs suit control cabinets where space is limited and airflow is poor, while all-in-one panel PCs are common where an operator needs a touch interface directly on the machine. For multi-station installations, thin clients can serve as low-maintenance operator terminals connected to a central server.

Thinvent Products for PLC and Automation Environments

Thinvent manufactures fanless industrial computers, mini PCs, thin clients, and all-in-one PCs designed for exactly these automation roles. Our Intel-powered mini PCs and industrial PCs run Windows 11 Pro, Windows 11 IoT, Ubuntu Linux, or Thinux embedded Linux, giving you a stable host for PLC programming software, SCADA, and HMI applications. Dual Gigabit Ethernet models support segregated control and office networks, and the fanless, SSD-based construction keeps systems running in dusty, hot, or vibration-prone cabinets. Whether you need a compact operator terminal beside a CLICK PLUS panel or a rugged IPC collecting production data, Thinvent's range covers the requirement.
