Memory and storage follow the same logic: 4–8 GB DDR4 is enough for a thin client or HMI panel, 16 GB suits SCADA and virtualised desktops, and 32–64 GB covers video analytics or multi-VM edge nodes. Solid-state storage from 128 GB to 1 TB removes the last mechanical failure point, and dual Gigabit Ethernet ports allow network segmentation between a plant network and a corporate one without extra switches.
Where These Systems Are Used
Common deployments include production-line HMI and SCADA terminals, CNC and robotics controllers, digital signage and queue-management kiosks, warehouse handheld-station hosts, laboratory instrument front-ends, security and ANPR video recording, banking and retail point-of-sale back ends, and thin-client fleets for VDI. Operating System and Software Choices
Industrial buyers generally pick the OS to match the software stack rather than the other way around. Microsoft Windows 11 Pro is the default for Windows-based SCADA, ERP and VDI clients, while Windows 11 IoT Value suits locked-down kiosk images.
