What is Enterprise IoT?
Enterprise IoT is the use of connected sensors, devices, equipment and assets across a large organization. The devices collect data and send it to other systems for analysis. Businesses use this data to monitor equipment, improve operations and automate processes. When applied in industrial settings, enterprise IoT is also called the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).
How Enterprise IoT Works
An IoT system uses embedded processors, sensors and communication hardware. A device collects data from its environment and sends it to a local system or to the cloud. The data is analyzed and used to trigger actions. Organizations use this process to reduce manual work, scale business processes and reduce operating costs.
Key Requirements for Enterprise IoT Hardware
Enterprise IoT deployments need computing hardware that runs continuously and connects to many sources. The main requirements are:
-
Enough processor cores and memory to run data collection and analysis software
-
Storage for local data and operating systems
-
Network connections for sending data to other systems
-
A managed, secure operating system such as Windows IoT Enterprise
Windows IoT Enterprise is a full version of Windows Enterprise. It has enterprise manageability and security for IoT solutions.
