Fanless System - Fanless Industrial PCs and Thin Clients

What Is a Fanless System?

A fanless system is a computer that has no cooling fan. It removes heat through its metal chassis, which acts as a heat sink. Because it has no moving fan, it has no fan bearings to wear out and no air intake to draw in dust. Fanless systems suit factories, kiosks, vehicles and other sites where dust, humidity or noise is a concern.

Key Specifications

Thinvent's fanless range includes Intel Core processors and ARM Cortex processors. The Intel models are Thinvent Industrial PC IPC3 and IPC5 units with 12th Generation Intel Core i3, i5 and i7 processors. They have up to 12 cores and a maximum frequency of 4.7 GHz. Memory ranges from 8 GB to 64 GB of DDR4 RAM, and storage ranges from 256 GB to 1 TB SSD. The ARM models are the Thinvent Micro 5R Thin Client and the Thinvent Micro 6 Pro Mini PC, with Cortex A53 and Cortex A55 processors, up to 4 cores and up to 1.9 GHz.

Comparison

Model Processor Cores Max Frequency Memory Storage
IPC3 Intel Core i3-1215U 6 4.4 GHz 8 GB DDR4 256 GB SSD
IPC5 Intel Core i5-1240P 12 4.4 GHz 16 GB or 32 GB DDR4 512 GB or 1 TB SSD
IPC5 Intel Core i7-1255U 10 4.7 GHz 16 GB to 64 GB DDR4 512 GB or 1 TB SSD

Micro 6 Pro ARM Cortex A55 4 1.9 GHz 4 GB 32 GB eMMC

Use Cases

Fanless systems fit machine control, data collection, digital signage, point-of-sale and kiosk applications. The Intel IPC models suit tasks that need more processing power. The ARM thin clients and mini PCs suit lighter tasks, such as display control and remote access.

Thinvent Fanless Systems

Thinvent has its fanless range as the Thinvent Industrial PC IPC3 and IPC5, the Thinvent Micro 5R Thin Client, the Thinvent Micro 6 Pro Mini PC and the Thinvent 15" Industrial Panel PC with an Intel Core i5-1335U processor. The IPC models run Windows 11 or Ubuntu Linux, and the Micro models run Thinux embedded Linux.
