An industrial computer monitor is a display built to run continuously alongside an industrial PC, panel PC or embedded controller. Unlike a consumer desktop screen, it is designed for 24/7 operation, wide operating temperatures, vibration, dust and the electromagnetic noise found on factory floors. Typical panels are 15", 17", 19", 21.5" and 23.8" and are usually specified as rack-mount, panel-mount, VESA-mount or open-frame units for kiosks and control cabinets.
What Makes a Monitor "Industrial"
The differences are mostly mechanical, thermal and electrical rather than resolution. Industrial displays normally offer:
-
Wide input voltage — 9–36V DC or 12V/24V DC terminal-block input instead of a mains-only adapter, so they can share a control cabinet supply.
-
Extended temperature range — commonly 0°C to 50°C or wider, with no fan and no vents that pull in dust.
-
Touch options — resistive touch
