What Does "Micro4" Refer To?
"Micro4" is a short, ambiguous search term that maps to several different things depending on context. The most common modern usage is shorthand for Micro Four Thirds (often written Micro 4/3, MFT), the mirrorless camera standard developed around a 17.3 × 13 mm imaging sensor — roughly a 2× crop factor relative to full-frame. In computing history, "Micro4" also appears as an informal reference to the Micro 440, an early microcomputer built by Comp-Sultants, Inc. and powered by an Intel 4040 microprocessor; Byte magazine estimated it to be the first third-party computer based on that chip, and while it sold poorly commercially, it later found a following among hobbyists as a bare-bones chassis.
