What Is a Micro Industrial PC?
A micro industrial PC is an ultra-compact, ruggedised computer built for mounting inside machines, control cabinets, kiosks, vehicles and OEM equipment where a standard desktop or rack PC simply will not fit. Often referred to as a microbox PC, micro form factor industrial computer or embedded box PC, these systems pack a full x86 platform into an enclosure small enough to hold in one hand — typically fanless, passively cooled and rated for continuous 24/7 operation.
The "micro" designation refers to the chassis class rather than a single specification. Micro industrial PCs generally measure in the region of a few litres of volume, use an external or wide-range DC power input (commonly 9–36V), and offer mounting options such as DIN-rail, VESA or wall brackets. Because there are no moving parts in a fanless design, dust, grease and metal particles common in factory environments cannot be drawn into the chassis — which is why micro industrial PCs are preferred over consumer mini PCs in production areas.
